Mission statements are too formal for me. I enjoy writing marching percussion music and hopefully I can write a few cadences that at least a handful of drumlines want to play.
Behind the Curtain
I'm Alan W Szlosek Jr. The public school system molded me into a drummer. College made me a computer scientist.
My freshman year of high school (Sebring) I tried out for tenors and made it, making me the short, skinny kid dwarfed by the heavy, white, fiberglass Stingray tenors. At night I'd lie awake in bed while my knee throbbed. Those were the days.
The next year I played snare and in eleventh grade I became drum captain. That's also when I began writing cadences and show music for our drumline.
1999 was the last year I marched but I still get excited when I hear a drumline practicing in the distance. I've missed composing greatly, and I hope getting back into it will bring more marching percussion my way.

What does Flam Swiss mean?
Rudiments are the building blocks of drumming. They're short, commonly-played patterns that have been given names. A flam swiss is another name I've seen given to swiss army triplets.
