Things are Happening

Northwest Drum Camp

Updated: Jul 15 2010

Day 1 of drum camp was great. Now I understand why everyone says Tom Float is a great instructor. He's jive-talkin' and funny as hell. The main thing he critiqued me on is my flat flams. Always had an inkling I wasn't playing them open enough. Now the master himself has told me so.

Camp goes through the 17th. I have much more to learn. Hope my 28 year old back doesn't give out.

If you're going, don't be shy ... find me and say hi. See you there!

A Street Beat (affectionately called Hasty)

Updated: Jun 29 2010

Check out the first 16 seconds of my level-4 street beat ... snare and bass parts only. Hope you enjoy.

(As always, it sounds best with headphones)

Flash doesn't seem to be working for you.

Oooof

Updated: Jun 28 2010

Putting the breaks on my Cavies cadence for now ... the beginning contains 10 seconds of music transcribed from a lot clip, so I've decided to double-check with the Cavaliers organization. I can't even pick out the transcribed bit from their final show, so it may have been pulled. Still, I don't want to cause them or myself any unnecessary grief (aka legal troubles).

In other news, I've made another attempt to extend my bass cadence. What I'm working on is now for 5 basses and is hovering around 32 measures (so, twice as long as the original). The additions also raise the difficulty a notch or two.

New Cadence and Street Beats

Updated: Jun 22 2010

Some visitors came seeking street beats ... well, I have two in progress. They are 3 and 4 on a scale of 1 to 5 (five being most difficult).

I should also mention my new cadence entitled Grahvy. It'll be a level 4 or 5, with plenty of off-beat split bass parts, 32nd notes, rudiments and flare.

Look for previews of all three within a month.

Cavies Cadence

Updated: Jun 09 2010

Almost done! Finished the cymbal part and the rest of the tenor part. If I'm still pleased with the piece in a day or two, I'll update the preview below and you'll be able to purchase it shortly.

The first version of this drum cadence was written in 1998 for the Sebring High School drumline, inspired by an excerpt of the 1993 Cavaliers show. The first page of music hasn't changed much since then, but the rest has gone in a whole new direction.

(As always, it sounds best with headphones)

Sebring got a Bronze!

Apr 1, 2010

My alma mater, Sebring High School, took home a bronze from Florida FFCC State Championships for their indoor show this year. Congratulations, guys!

(This video is from two weeks before championships.)

Indoor Show

Updated: Mar 11 2010

The indoor commission has since fallen through, but I had a blast writing what I did. This is just the opener, written for a beginner drumline, for a marching battery only show.
