I've started another

Oct 21 2012

This weekend I did some more writing on a street beat I started earlier this month. It's currently 100bpm and I'm shooting for a level 2 difficulty (5 being corps-level difficulty). The snare part has some flams, accents, diddles and some 16th note timing challenges, but I'm trying to keep it simple. The tenor part currently has a few instances of one-handed 16th notes around the drums, as well as a few flams and diddles. Most of the bass parts are on and off-beat unison grooves, with a few split parts here and there.

The piece has changed quite a bit over two weeks, and today I shifted the beginning for the third time. It currently starts out with a funky rim and snare part (could be hi-hat and snare) and is soon joined by basses. Then the focus moves to the tenors, with backing bass and snare, until everyone comes in for a more straight-ahead groove. But after that, I'm not certain where I'll take it.

I'm excited about it, so I figured I should tell the world.

Streetside

It's something new! It's a street beat! Perhaps your band might like to march to it?

Buy it on the cadences page. Listen below:

For your ears

Do yourself a favor and go listen to Streetbeat No 4 by David Reeves on Tapspace. It's such a good street beat! You should probably buy it too.

While I'm at it, the tempo and triplet feel of A Bit Outside by Josh Gottry reminds me of In Bananaton. Josh's piece is shorter but it's got more flare. Check it out!

The name comes from this ... needless to say I love Tim and Eric. Enjoy!

My Cavaliers cadence is finished: cav93bk3

Oct 09 2010

I give you my newest cadence, cav93bk3, named after the wav file that inspired it. I downloaded the file in the late 90s from Gridit's Home Page (available now only through the Wayback Machine). The file featured an excerpt of the 1993 Cavaliers book. More backstory on the piece here.

Many visitors seemed to like my previous revision (find it below) but this one has a new beginning, rewritten to avoid copyright issues. Hope you like it!

Listen below. Get it here.
